Notes

Some reviews from Selling Kabul by Sylvia Khoury Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre - 2023 Season Directed by Brett Cousins Sydney Morning Herald and The Age By Cameron Woodhead Zaiwala’s wonderfully modest, subtle, and introspective Jawid lends the interrogation of courage and cowardice a grave moral complexity Theatre Matters By Kris Weber Zaiwala, as the soft-spoken Jawid, is tremendous in a role where he has to be the voice of reason in desperate times. It’s a wonderfully nuanced performance because, like with Leyla, for large parts of the play we are unsure if his motivations are pure. The Blurb By Alex First The best of the performances was Farhad Zaiwala, who brought authenticity and restraint to his role as Afiya’s husband and Taroon’s brother-in-law. Stage Whispers By Michael Brindley Farhad Zaiwala’s Jawid has a quiet, dogged dignity and we do feel his bitter guilt at what he does to survive: making uniforms for the Taliban. It is Jawid who gives the play its title: he’s sold out. But then again, that puts food on the table and provides a haven for his wife’s brother, and maybe the new child. Melbourne Theatre Info By Tasha White Farhad’s performance intertwined the connections between all characters and was able to play the shades of each scene and keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
