Karl Kees van Wel
Since age 4, Karl received dramatic training through community workshops and enjoyed
any other kind of performance. This led to a place at Newtown School of Performing
Arts as a drama and music student. He recently graduated from Newtown, achieving
band 6 HSC results in both drama and musical performance.
Karl has performed as the lead in multiple workshops, school performances, public
speaking competitions, MC and presenter roles and the NSW State Drama Ensemble.
In 2022 he featured as the lead in a Telstra Pre-Paid TVC.
Karl has been singing since 2018 receiving pop, jazz and musical theatre tuition from
Charmaine Gibbs, Carmel Mesiti and Gavin Brown. He has been playing the piano
since 2012, receiving jazz tuition from Charmaine Ford.
Karl is currently a swing for Robert Jeffery’s touring show The Vallies, until he is offered
a full time position in the group.
Karl was involved in NSW State Solo Vocal Camp in 2019 and 2022. He was a featured
artist in the 2019, 2022 and 2023 Schools Spectacular and the 2023 Pulse Alive Show
as well as its ‘Far West Tour’, receiving vocal and dance training for all shows.
Karl is currently a member of the 2023 Talent Development Project graduating class,
under the consultation of Peter Cousens and Phil Marc Anquetil. Through this course,
Karl has undergone musical theatre and songwriting training, and will record a musical
theatre cover at Studios 301 later this year.
Karl has experience in several action sports including surfing, skateboarding, motorbike
riding, dirt bike riding, mountain biking, bouldering and parkour, Karl also underwent 3
years of gymnastics tumbling and trampolining training from 2017 to 2020.
