Clarke trained as an actor at the Australian Academy of Dramatic Art (AADA) and completed an Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media at Metro Screen. Clarke has appeared in Upper Middle Bogan (ABC), Please Like Me (ABC), Utopia (ABC), True Story with Hamish & Andy (Season 1 and 2) Channel 9, Back in Very Small Business (ABC), and the Netflix series The InBESTigators. He has written, directed, produced & performed in short films which have screened at festivals including Palm Springs, Cleveland, Canada, Aspen, LA, Cyprus, Ukraine, St Kilda, Dungog, Flickerfest, and won awards including Best Film at Bondi, Forster, Shepparton, New England & Clare Valley Festival. He won Best Actor at Warrambeen, 24hr Shootout in Newcastle (including best director), The Jury Prize (Canada International Film Festival) and in 2010 won the Best Male Actor award at Tropfest. Clarke was a writer/ performer and co-director on The Roast (ABC2) from 2012-2014.
